Sasuke then honors his promise and helps Boruto prepare for the upcoming Chunin Exam, a test taken by young ninjas. Sasuke agrees on the condition that Boruto performs the Rasengan technique, which he then learns from Konohamaru. After Naruto misses Himawari's birthday, Boruto meets Sasuke and asks him to train him so that he can become strong enough to surpass Naruto. Sasuke returns to the village to warn Naruto about the powerful opponent he faced earlier. Boruto is upset at Naruto for focusing more on being Hokage than on their family. Boruto, Sarada Uchiha (Sasuke and Sakura Uchiha's daughter), and a child named Mitsuki become an elite ninja team under their teacher, Konohamaru Sarutobi. He is married to Hinata Uzumaki and has two children, Boruto Uzumaki and Himawari Uzumaki. The plot then moves to the protagonist from the Naruto series, Naruto Uzumaki, who has become "the Seventh Hokage", the leader of the village of Konoha.

Naruto recognizes his blade, reaches out to his back where he usually keeps his blade but it isn’t there. She informs that it was given to her mother by a ‘hero in a dream. As they are about to leave the ruins, they run into Queen Sāra’s daughter, who kept the old chakra blade that belonged to Naruto. With Mukade gone, Sakura and Sai reunite with Naruto and Yamato in the present. Just as the heroes vanish from the past, Minato asks Naruto not to change history by erasing all of their memories. As Yamato and Kakashi rescue Naruto and Sāra, Minato uses the kunai to completely seal off the power. After Sāra disables Anrokuzan’s technique, Minato exposes Anrokuzan’s weak spot and Naruto destroys it. Minato and Naruto use their regenerative chakra enough to create the legendary Super Rasengan. Anrokuzan uses the parts of the tower to become a giant defensive puppet. While they rescue Sara’s people and Naruto holds Minato’s kunai, Sāra recalls her memory about Sēramu’s lullaby. Minato, Shibi Aburame, Chōza Akimichi, and Kakashi Hatake, on their own mission to stop Anrokuzan, appear to support the heroes. Naruto agrees to protect Sāra, after Anrokuzan declares about the kidnapped citizens and creates to summon the “Puppet Ninja Forces”. It is later revealed that Mukade traveled to the past six years before Naruto and changed his name to Anrokuzan, the minister of Loran who had killed Sāra’s mother Sēramu. When Naruto awakens from this time slip, he meets the queen of Loran, Sāra. Naruto and Yamato are sent twenty years into the past.
